PIPE VISION INSPIRES NEXT GENERATION AT KĀINGA ORA’S JUNIOR CONSTRUCTION PLUS DAY

14 March 2024

In a bid to ignite a passion for working on urban developments amongst the younger generation, an annual Junior Construction Plus Day was held at Viscount Primary by Kāinga Ora.

This engaging initiative was created to introduce students to the multifaceted world of construction and urban planning while inspiring them to consider career pathways in the field.

The event saw Pipe Vision, Lead Alliance and Kāinga Ora staff share their expertise through interactive and hands-on activities. Students aged eight to twelve, were immersed at interactive stations designed to provide them with a glimpse into different areas of the development process.

Pipe Vision’s station featured our First Time Response (FTR) combination truck, two of our expert CCTV operators, Deveraux Duval and Jesse Masters and our General Manager of People, Culture and Safety Jeremy Harris. The trio provided an immersive “CCTV operator experience” for the students.

The students were given an opportunity to operate a CCTV crawler camera with Deveraux who enjoyed the interactive session. Deveraux stated, “I had an awesome experience being able to share some of my knowledge about the pipe service and maintenance industry with the students. It was great to see their enthusiasm and I enjoyed demonstrating how our equipment operates along with answering their questions”.

The students also got to experience sitting behind the wheel of our FTR truck.  Jesse Masters who ushered the children into the driver’s seat shared his perspective on the event saying, “It was a fun experience, and the kids enjoyed being in the truck. They asked a lot of questions about our job, it was good”. Our GM of People, Culture and Safety Manager Jeremy Harris was also on hand, fielding questions about the truck’s operations, its benefits, and addressing any drainage-related questions.

This session not only deepened the students’ understanding of urban developments but opened their minds to a potential career path as future contributors to the industry’s growth and innovation.  Pipe Vision staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to inspiring more young people again in the future in conjunction with Lead Alliance and Kāinga Ora.
